Intersex people give virtual intersex awareness talk on Second Life

Intersex participants in Second Life shared their stories to connect with each other and practice taking risks that they may have not outside of virtual space.

Second Life is a virtual world where people create avatars, interact with each other, and build community. The online platform remains a popular place for people who want to reimagine embodiment and transgress societal norms.

For the last 18 years, Dr. Cary Costello has conducted a longitudinal research study inside Second Life, interviewing upwards of 148 intersex people. In addition to being a researcher, Costello is also a participant who engages with and provides support to the intersex community.
