Intersex and nonbinary student activist Scout Schultz murdered by Georgia Tech Police

Scout Schultz was an engineering student and activist committed to liberation. They identified as intersex and nonbinary and were president of the Georgia Tech Pride Alliance. Like many intersex people, Scout contended with mental health struggles. Officer Tyler Beck fatally shot Scout in the midst of a mental health crisis.

According to the lawyer representing the Schultz family, Officer Beck had no experience in crisis intervention. Scout's death led to massive unrest on Georgia Tech's campus and police repression of community activists affiliated with the revolt. The Schultz family received $1 million in 2021 after filing a wrongful death lawsuit.
