City of St. Louis passes resolution honoring Intersex Awareness Day, advocates celebrate with panel, zine, and film screenings
Metro Trans Umbrella Group and Vivent Health organized a film screening and panel discussion for Intersex Awareness Day, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the earliest public U.S. intersex protest.
The event started with a blessing from the local chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Local intersex community member Jordan Braxton welcomed visitors to the event and revealed the City of St. Louis’ Mayoral proclamation of Intersex Awareness Day, and the Board of Aldermen’s Resolution to the same effect.
The organizers screened both the landmark film “Hermaphrodites Speak!” (1996) and “The Intersex Future” (2026). This was followed by a panel discussion with Aubrey Lay, Nokie Rae, Jordan Braxton, and Court Felle, moderated by Sister Sybil LiberTease.
Guests were given copies of “SHOW ME INTERSEX,” a St. Louis & Missouri Intersex History zine produced by Aubrey for the 30th Anniversary event.
